A Message From our Principal

March 26, 2020

Dear Students & Parents,

With the recent directive from the minister of education for brick and mortar schools to suspend classes a lot of students and parents are having their first experiences of education from home.  All of us at NorthStar are old hands at doing school this way so we are largely unaffected.  We have had to suspend all of our Activity Days and Limitless excursions for the time being as directives from Alberta’s Public Health Officer has led our School Board to cancel all field trips but our classes continue on as usual.

However, we recognize that things may not be completely business as usual for some of our students.  If you are experiencing difficulties in accomplishing your school work because of changes to your situation please contact your teachers.  They have some options available to assist you in successfully completing your courses.  Talk to them – they can help.

If you are working on a subject with a diploma exam you might see a lesson or two disappear as some lessons are designed around preparation for the diploma exam.  Since you will not be writing those diploma exams your teachers are making some adjustments to those courses.

There are still many unanswered questions about things like graduation, possible changes to the end date of diploma exam subjects (since the schedule was built around those exams) and other usual things we do at school that we may have to do differently.  As soon as we have more information we will pass it on to you.

May this verse from Isaiah remind you that we do not face these challenging times alone.  “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  Isaiah 41:10
